Getting a Passport in Houston

Houston is home to a great deal of international businesses, so as you might imagine, the Regional Passport Agency is a fairly efficient operation. Our office is just one mile south of the Mickey Leland Federal Building, where the Passport Agency is located. We are by appointment only, so please call ahead.

In Houston, we have everything you need to get a same day passport, or a passport renewal in a hurry. The Passport Agency here can be tough. Don't mess with Texas!

What you should know about how to get a passport in Houston:

• This Regional Passport Agency is among the busiest in the country. There is no way to just walk in and ask them questions. Call us right away if you think you need help.
• The Houston Agency has tight restrictions on the number of processing slots that are allocated to expediters. This means that all expediter slots can fill up, especially early in the week and around federal holidays, which is another reason to call right away.
• The Agency requires a printed travel itinerary or a business letter detailing the need for an expedited application. They do not require "confirmed travel," meaning you don't have to buy an airline ticket prior to getting your new passport.
• We submit applications for processing at the Houston Passport Agency at 8:00AM, so we usually need your application in hand the night prior.
• If your application type requires approval at a local acceptance facility first (most do), you may have a hard time getting that done the morning of your application. There is one nearby location that opens at 7:30AM Tues - Fri, but it is by appointment only:

• If will need our help expediting your passport, you MUST have our Letter of Authorization in hand before you can go to an acceptance facility, so please contact us first.
• Passports are usually issued after 4:00PM, though we do not have control of the exact timing.
• To manage their volume, the Houston Passport Agency will process applications the order they are received, and occasionally delay an application by a day if it is not needed for travel within 24hrs, so it is very important that we have your application submitted first thing in the morning.
• Passport Cards are available through this location for land and sea travel only.
