On April 9th 2011, the third annual National Passport Day is scheduled to take place across the country but with the looming government shutdown, the event may wind up being rescheduled for a later day. National Passport Day was created to help raise awareness as well as educate the American public on the process of applying for a passport.
As the American people wait with baited breath for the inevitable government shutdown, there has been much speculation as to how this situation will affect US passport applicants. Different reports were issued stating all passport applications in the system would be held indefinitely until the shutdown was lifted.
April 9th is US Passport Day! This year, US Passport Day falls on a Saturday which means all passport processing facilities will implement special hours to help process passports. The Los Angeles Passport Agency recently announced a major change regarding the use of passport expediting services. Up until now, passport expeditors were allowed to submit fifteen passports each weekday. Each expediter was given special slots for the three different services - two slots for the Same Day, three slots for the Next Day and ten slots for the Two Day. Effective immediately, expediters will only have one slot for Same Day, two slots for Next Day and seven slots for Two Day.
