Passport Picture Controversy Solved

Monday, 9 May 2011 in US Passport News 0 Comments

In the past few months, many American travelers seeking US passports have been confused by the requirement of two passport pictures when submitting an application for a US passport. In the past, this rule was steadfast and enforced and would warrant a rejection if the applicant submitted only one passport picture with his/her application. As of recently, the rules have changed and one passport picture is deemed acceptable at most of the US Passport Agencies across the country. I suggest that you submit two pictures just to be on the safe side as you wouldn't want to delay the application process further by accidentally assuming all of the passport agencies accept only one photo. Be mindful that the pictures must be 2 by 2 inches and that you still must adhere to the following rules:

  1. No hats, no sunglasses or anything obstructing your face
  2. Must be shot against a solid white or off white background
  3. Must be a full frontal face shot and not a profile picture
  4. Printed on photo quality paper
  5. Taken within 6 months of your application date
