Yesterday the world received news that the South Korean city of Pyeongchang will be the host of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. This marks the second trip that the Olympic Games have made to South Korea. The first time the Asian country was selected to host the Olympic Games was back in 1998 in Seoul. The 1998 Summer Olympics brought tons of publicity and tourism to South Korea and in turn gave the world a glimpse inside of the country which borders North Korea.
In a recent article in the LATimes.com, the South Korean city of Pyeongchang only went through one round of voting to capture the hosting duties:

“IOC President Jacques Rogge said the city received a majority of votes after just one round of voting among its 95 members. It marks the first time a city has won an Olympic bid in the first round of voting since 1995 when Salt Lake City was awarded the 2002 Winter Games.”

Several South Korean stocks including casinos, resort operators and construction firms spiked today after news that the Asian nation would host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games hit the internet.
