US Department of State Issues Travel Warning for South Sudan
By Linda Ripoll
Very few people have ever heard of South Sudan but the newly recognized country already has a US travel warning which can’t bode well for its tourism board. According to the U.S. Department of State website, Travel.State.Gov, this new warning comes on the heels of the new country’s independence:
"The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of traveling to South Sudan, and recommends that you avoid all travel to the states in the border region between Sudan and South Sudan," the travel warning read.”
The cause for concern stems from the violence that broke out between rival Sudanese forces. There are rumors that military forces are also gathering near the new country’s borders. All US travelers are cautioned to stay away from the newly recognized country until further notice.
