Can I take my child's passport photos with my digital camera?

We recommend that you get your passport pictures taken at our office, the post office or at Kinkos, CVS, Rite-Aid, Wal-Mart or Walgreens. However, there are do-it-yourself options.

Professional photos are recommended because passport pictures must be taken against a white background, they must be 2” x 2” and you cannot wear any headgear, sunglasses, religious garb or masks that might hide the face. You also cannot even smile and show teeth! More importantly, there are specific rules about the size and placement of the head in the picture. Taken together, these requirements cause many people to take pictures that are not approved. Save yourself the hassle of trying to get it right and risking a rejection - professional photos usually cost about $20 or less and are ready in a few minutes.

Still want to do it yourself? We suggest using an online resource that allows you to upload your own digital photo to create a passport photo with the proper dimensions.
