How secure is the passport card?

Passport Cards are smaller, and made of different materials than passport books, so they do not provide as many options for security features.

However, laser engraving and a special RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip help to make the card as secure as possible, reducing the chances of counterfeit and forgery. It should be noted that no personal information is stored on the RFID chip.

The chip simply allows border agents access to see that a valid passport record is on file in the Department of State database, though it does not actually contain database information. Card skimming to steal information, therefore, is not possible.
