Reasons Why a US Passport Application May be Denied

There are several reasons why US Passport applications may be denied by the US State Department.

They include:

  1. Incomplete or incorrect supporting documentation (e.g., invalid birth certificate, invalid ID, non-standard photos, etc.)
  2. Incomplete or incorrect passport application form (e.g., wrong form(s), required fields blank, misspellings, etc.)
  3. Wrong payment amount
  4. Outstanding child support of $2500 or more
  5. Outstanding felony or criminal warrant (excluding parking tickets or other civil infractions)
  6. Parole or probation arrangements that limit travel

You should be aware that the US State Dept has the right to hold your Passport application and request additional documents from you at their discretion.
